Vital ovarian cancer resource re-launches
Ovacome, the UK-wide support group for all those concerned with ovarian cancer, launch www.ovacome.org.uk, a site targeted at patients, families, friends, carers and health professionals. Developed by Jamkit, the web development company for charities, the new site will be an integral part of the charity's offering and aims to raise awareness of the condition that sees 6,900 new cases each year, and is the 4th most common cancer among women.
The symptons of ovarian cancer are vague - which is one of the reasons why the majority of patients are diagnosed at the later stages. The cancer has a high death toll with less than a third of patients surviving five years after they are first diagnosed, if caught early, the chances of cure are significantly higher. The new Ovacome website provides sufferers, who tend to be women over 50, with vital information about treatment, screening and research. Peer to peer support is encouraged through member's areas, where sufferers can share their experiences. Future plans for the site include an online shop, online donations and a discussion forum.
Louise Bayne of Ovacome comments:
"We want to raise the awareness of ovarian cancer and direct people to Ovacome. The new site will provide vital information and peer support to ovarian cancer sufferers and their families."
Jamkit's Technical Director, Seb Bacon adds:
"The new site is accessible, easy to use and will provide a platform for the organisation to grow."
