Arthritis Care website wins top prize
Arthritis Carešs website recently won a top prize in the British Medical Association Patient Information Awards 2007. Following the relaunch of the organisation's website in April 2006, the commendation made by a judging panel of health professionals confirms the value of the information and support it offers. The site won first prize in the consumer websites category.The Patient Information Awards were established by the BMA in 1997 to recognise quality in written patient information leaflets and small booklets. Three years later a separate category for consumer websites was added, the association having recognised the potential of the internet in helping people to access information to enhance patients' understanding of health issues and their ability to participate in decisions about their care.
The judging reviewers were very taken with Arthritis Care site's accessible language and ease of navigation. They described it as 'a fantastic website with comprehensive resources on both the clinical and social aspects of arthritis.'
Kate Llewelyn, head of information services for Arthritis Care, was delighted by the news: 'Thousands of people with arthritis visit our site and this award is further validation of the quality of the information it contains. As with all our information, it was designed in consultation with people with arthritis and the benefits have paid off for all the site users.'
