Moorfields

Moorfields is the oldest and largest specialist eye hospital in the world, carrying out more than 10,000 operations each year.

The issue

Moorfields needed a fully accessible site that was easy to use, and quick to update.

The solution

After extensive user testing, we created a site that is accessible to blind, visually impaired and elderly people. The design allows users to scale up whole pages rather than just increasing the text size, and supports the screen-reader technologies used by many blind people. The site is also optimised for users with varying levels of colour-blindness.

Webfactory has helped Moorfields achieve considerable cost and time savings by updating the site in-house. Some pages, like the site map, update themselves automatically, and the modular nature of the system means that, in the future, Moorfields will easily be able to add more online services such as booking and cancellation of appointments.

The result

The new site has been very well received, increasing visitor figures and doubling the number of online enquiries. It has also appeared in the trade press and on the BBC as an example of best practice.

'I was very impressed by Jamkit. The Webfactory has proved to be a cost-effective way of building and maintaining a site, especially for a non-IT specialist.'

- Molly Baack, Moorfields Communications Manager
